Matthew qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Anderson after completing an Industrial Economics degree at The University of Nottingham. He founded The Hut Group with John Gallemore in 2004, which they have evolved from an entertainment re-seller into a vertically integrated global health and beauty brand in little over a decade.
John GallemoreCFO & Co Founder
John founded The Hut Group with Matthew Moulding in 2004, having previously worked together at The Caudwell Group. They intially set out to sell home entertainment goods, establishing the business using £500,000 of personal funds and buying the domain TheHut.com for £3,000.
Paul GedmanCEO PRESTIGE DIVISION
Paul arrived at The Hut Group in 2009 and quickly became an integral member of the team. His ability to build, motivate and manage led to his promotion to CEO of our Consumer division in September 2012. After driving significant growth within Consumer and Prestige, Paul joined the Executive Board in October 2012.
Andy DuckworthCEO HEALTH DIVISION
Andy is a qualified accountant with prior retail experience at Pets at Home and Matalan. In May 2011, he joined The Hut Group to establish the Commercial Finance Function. Andy was promoted to CEO of our Health division in December 2012. After successfully overseeing the division’s international growth strategy and the delivery of a world-class production facility, he joined the Executive Board in May 2015.
James PochinGROUP LEGAL Director & COMPANY SECRETARY
James joined The Hut Group in July 2010 as Group Legal Director and Company Secretary. Prior to working here, James was a corporate partner in a national law firm advising on mergers and acquisitions, takeover offers and schemes of arrangement, disposals, IPOs and equity fundraisings.
Darren RajanahCEO PLATFORM DIVISION
Darren joined The Hut Group in 2008, making him one of the early founding team members. He is a CIMA qualified accountant with 7 years of financial experience at The Caudwell Group. As CCO, Darren played a key role in our rapid expansion and was promoted to CEO of THG Platform division in March 2016.
Adam KnappyCEO LIFESTYLE DIVISION
Adam joined The Hut Group as a commercial analyst in October 2011 after graduating from Durham University with an MA in Physics. Soon after he arrived, he successfully implemented an analytical approach to online trading across the group and was promoted to CEO of our Consumer division in October 2013.
Ashley RamrachiaGROUP TALENT DIRECTOR
Joining in March 2011 Ashley leads our industry pioneering talent function. Ash focuses on finding and nurturing leaders with an emphasis on sheer potential over industry experience and a meritocratic culture in place of traditional hierarchy; making THG the number 1 place for ambitious talent that want to run a business or build industry leading technology. Prior to this, Ashley worked at leading search firm Watson Moore, headhunting executives for a range of fast growth venture backed companies in the North West
Rachel HorsefieldCEO BEAUTY DIVISION
Rachel worked at Boots for five years before joining The Hut Group in September 2012 as Head of Trading for the Beauty division. In her first year, she won Best Newcomer in the 2012 annual Company Awards and followed this by delivering record-breaking retail sales growth in 2013. In September of the same year, Rachel was promoted to Managing Director of our Prestige Beauty division.
Wing Yung ChanGroup CMO
Wing joined The Hut Group in 2013 as a Software Engineer after graduating first in his year from Cambridge in Computer Science. Wing founded the Customer Science function in 2015. In August 2016, he was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer, leading marketing, data science and creative across the group.
Schalk Van Der MerweCTO
Schalk joined The Hut Group in 2014 as IT Director, after 3 years of leading Infrastructure at Betfair. Prior to this, he completed an MBA in Finance and Accounting at the University of Liverpool. He was instrumental in scaling and upgrading our IT systems in preparation for peak trading seasons. In September 2015, Schalk was promoted to Chief Technology Officer.
Shane O'Rourke QGMGROUP SECURITY, RISK AND RESILIENCE DIRECTOR
Shane joined The Hut Group in 2016, following 22 years military service as a senior risk and resilience manager, operating globally on behalf on the MOD and Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
Shane is responsible for designing and delivering dynamic risk management solutions to The Hut Group global business operating environment.
He has gained a 1st (BA Hons) in Security Consultancy
Quentin Naylor MBEGROUP PEOPLE DIRECTOR
Quentin joined The Hut Group in 2016 after 5 years at Goldman Sachs International and 19 years in the British Army.
Quentin retired from the Army in 2011 as a Lieutenant Colonel having been awarded an MBE and decorated for gallantry in the Iraq conflict.
He is responsible for people at THG, including the development of all our talent, improving leadership and optimising the unique calibre of people who work at The Hut Group.
He completed his MBA at Cranfield University and also has an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London.
Richard is the Chairman of Fenwick and was previously CEO of the Cooperative Group and a non executive Director of Howdens. He has spent over 20 years in retail, starting with the management buyout of Allders in the late 1980s, where he was the CFO of European Duty Free and ran the North American operation for a time. Over the years, he has also been involved in the growth of J D Wetherspoon and the turnarounds of Laura Ashley, Welcome Break and Bulmers. Joined The Hut Group Board October 2012, becoming Chairman on 1st April 2013.
Angus MonroNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Angus is a Non-Executive Director of The Hut Group. Angus has immense experience of the retail sector, having spent 13 years at Marks & Spencer, followed by 5 years at the Burton Group/Arcadia where he was Managing Director of Dorothy Perkins. He then spent 4 years at Kingfisher where he was trading Director at B&Q and Woolworths. Angus joined Matalan as a Non-Executive Director in 1991, becoming Chief Executive 5 years later and leading the retailer’s 1998 floatation. Between 2002-2008 Angus was a non-executive director at NSB Retail Systems prior to its sale in 2008.
Dominic MurphyNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dominic Murphy is a former Partner of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. LLP (KKR) and was a member of the firm’s European investment and portfolio management committees. In addition, Murphy serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Acteon, Walgreens-Boots Alliance, LGC Group, OEG OffShore & Webhelp. Previously, Murphy was a Partner at Cinven, a large European-based private equity firm and an investment manager with 3i.
He founded 8c Capital in 2017 to invest in and support high growth European Growth companies.
Mark EvansNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Mark is a Founding Partner at Kindred Capital, an early stage Venture Capital fund. Previously Mark was a General Partner at Balderton, which manages $1.9 billion in committed venture capital. Before this, Mark was the CEO of a US software services company, Entrepeneur in Residence at Benchmark Capital in Menlo Park and latterly spent 15 years working for Goldman Sachs in Europe, Asia and the US.
He is on the board of many companies including Gousto, Depop, Tapdaq and Touch Surgery.
Iain McdonaldNON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Iain is the founder of Belerion Capital. Previously, he was a partner with the William Currie Group, which is a private family office focussed on technology and e-commerce investments. Before this, Iain was a top-ranked retail and e-commerce analyst with Numis Securities and Charterhouse.
He is joining Boohoo’s board of directors in September 2017.
