The Hut Group Helps Bring Woolworths Back Online

Woolworths has selected ecommerce white label specialist, The Hut Group, to run its entertainment shop as part of its online re-launch. The Hut Group will manage the section of the new Woolworths site dedicated to entertainment products woolworthsentertainment.co.uk, ensuring customers receive games, DVDs, CDs, Blu Ray and books at competitive prices, all with free UK delivery.

The Woolworths brand*, bought by Shop Direct owners the Barclay brothers earlier this year, will not re-open its stores and has instead embraced an online business strategy. Woolworths’ online-only product range moves the business away from general merchandise and homeware to concentrate on entertainment products, children’s clothes and gifts, and its Ladybird clothing range.

Matthew Moulding, CEO at The Hut Group, says, “Woolworths is an established brand that is recognised throughout Britain. This year marks Woolworths’ 100th year in the retail industry, so we’re proud to be part of the brand’s revival and enable the business to offer the products that it is famous for. Our white label service will ensure Woolworths provides an excellent customer experience, from searching and browsing for products to the physical delivery of goods.”

The Hut Group offers retailers an end-to-end ecommerce solution that delivers a fully managed service with the technology to provide a reliable transactional website for any online retail operation.

* Woolworths is a trading name of Shop Direct Home Shopping Limited. The Woolworths and Ladybird brands run alongside Shop Direct Group’s other brands, including Littlewoods, Empire and Great Universal.

Online retailer TheHut.com tops this year’s list of technology companies in the Northwest,
and is ranked No 18 in Britain, according to the latest Sunday Times Microsoft Tech
Track 100 league table published this weekend.

Now in its seventh year, the annual league table ranks Britain’s one hundred fastest-
growing, private technology companies by their sales growth over a two-year period,
according to their latest available accounts. The majority (75) of companies on the table
were in profit.

Seven businesses in the region (compared with 11 last year) have won places on this
year’s listing. Each of these companies has made a substantial contribution to the local
economy. Together they employ 878 staff and have racked up combined sales of £84m.

Based in Northwich, Cheshire, TheHut.com (No 18) runs its own website selling
home entertainment products, such as books, DVDs and games. Founded only three
years ago by Matthew Moulding and John Gallemore, the company’s sales soared an
average of 187% a year from £692,000 in 2005 to £5.7m in 2007.
